Collecting History! In the world of collecting, nothing is more desired than something old. That is because we as humans are always striving to aquire knowledge and what better way to learn about something than to actually 'have' and 'own' a piece of history? As a young boy growing up in the coal mining area of Southwest Virginia,i was amazed by an old stone building far back in the woods. There were a lot of stories floating around about what it had once been.I was told it was once a prison built during the revolutionary war..and from someone else i was advised it was the same, but from the civil war.Either way,i was mesmerized! I would trek back in the woods on a Saturday just to sit and imagine it was all sorts of things. To a young hillbilly boy's mind it was simply anything i wished it to be! I have always been interested in the past and how our ancestor's lived and died.I tried to learn as much as possible about the tools they used and things they invented for daily use.Today there are collector's for just about anything, but to me the best way to enjoy the art or hobby of collecting is use your imagination.Envision someone actually using the tool, clock or whatever it is you like. The fun of collecting is much more valuable than the ownership of any object.I personally enjoy collecting old clocks. To me it is a window to another time and way of life. The craftsmen who built these mechanical wonders poured there heart into it.It was something for them to be proud of! Something that to often today is dismissed in favor of the almighty dollar.I advise anyone with a passion for history to consider going into antique clock collecting. It is fun, entertaining and reasonably inexpensive. You won't be dissapointed!
