Vintage T-Shirts 101: A Buyer's Guide
Show Guide...
If you?re looking for a specific and genuine vintage shirt, you probably aren?t going to luck out at your local thrift store. Take my word for it ? I was just there and grabbed all the good stuff. Besides, eBay makes it so much easier to get exactly the shirt you want immediately. So now that you're serious about finding that authentic New Kids on the Block tee you've always wanted (seriously?), we've compiled an informative little lesson to help you along the way.

Use the search bar to find your item and go with the most basic search terms possible, such as "vintage New Kids shirt." If that initial search brings in too many results, you can narrow your focus by adding words like ?NKOTB,? ?concert,? or other related words.
Sometimes shirts are described in different ways. For example, a Led Zeppelin shirt could be listed as "vintage Zeppelin jersey" and wouldn't appear in your search results if you entered "vintage Zeppelin shirt " Go ahead ? click on each of those links and you'll see how they fetch different results. Remember that varying your search by leaving out the word ?Led? may also increase your hits. Make sure to mix up your search terms as much as possible and be creative to broaden your search outcome.

As outlined in our Vintage T-Shirts 101 guide, the single best way to determine if a shirt is truly vintage is by checking its label. Since most of these vintage lines are no longer in production or have updated their branding, inspecting a vintage shirt tag can tell you a lot about an item?s authenticity and the era in which it was produced.
The 1970s

Identifying a vintage shirt from the 1970s is quite simple. At that time, companies that were producing shirts for screen printing hadn't started branding themselves yet. Many of these labels will appear fairly generic and not have any obvious link to a specific company. It wasn?t until the late ?70s that the big T-shirt players and stronger branding images started to emerge.

Guide to T-shirts on Ebay: Transfers Vs. Screenprinting
Show Guide... This guide goes by the old standard "Buyer Beware".
I have some expierience with t-shirts and printing t-shirts over the past few years. One thing that I have noticed is that "transfers" are becoming more and more popular to sellers. They are easy to make, and look nice at first... but like I said buyer beware. here are some things to note.
Transfers are basicly an "iron-on". Mostly printed from a computer printer and then a heat press is used to apply the print to the shirt. This is how someone can easily get a full color image or a photographic image on a shirt. While they will look nice at first, they will begin to fade much faster then a screen printed shirt. With a screen printed shirt you get a better quality print and a longer lasting print over time.
Now how can you tell the difference while you are shopping?
The biggest giveaway is when someone will give you the option of what size you want it in within one auction. They will say something along the lines of "After you buy the shirt, you pick the size you want". This is because all they are doing is picking a blank shirt from thier inventory and heat pressing the image you want to the shirt. They will also typicaly list the "sizes available" and have it available in more then one color or on more then one item (ie: T-shirt, Sweatshirt, Jacket, Hat, etc).
When it is a screen printed shirt the size will already be listed in the auction since the person has to print the shirts in advance. When in doubt just ask the questions. Is it a screen printed shirt? or a transfer? Some of you might say that this really isn't that big of a deal, but it can be. You can see an obvious difference between the two styles of printing.
It all comes down to just asking questions. Ask if they are making it themselves and how they are doing it. Screen printers...
Are Vintage Hawaiian Shirts really vintage?
Show Guide... Ever wonder why some Vintage Hawaiian shirts sell for $100's and even $1000's and others only for a few dollars or less? The best resource book available is called The Hawaiian Shirt written by H. Thomas Steele. Over 100 pages show full-color photos of genuine vintage Hawaiian shirts from the 30's, 40's & 50's. Vintage shirts were originally made of silk, rayon or 100% cotton with embroidered Made in Hawaii labels. Authentic label names included: Aloha, The Kahala, Kamehameha, Waikiki Sports, Surfriders, Royal Hawaiian, Paradise, Champion Kahanamoku, Watumull's, Iolani, Pali Hawaiian Style, McInerny's, Hawaiiana, Poi Pounder Tog, Shaneen's, Kalakaua, Malihini, Made in California and most, if not all of these old labels had a predominant palm tree motifs no matter what coast (California) or Hawaii, they came from. Finally, some shirts had genuine coconut buttons while others just had plain plastic white buttons. Regardless, look for shirts with historic/exotic scenes, tropical flowers, surfing and scenes from Polynesian legends, you just might find that GENUINE, vintage Hawaiian shirt, if you're lucky!

When asked what I sell on eBay I usually describe my treasures as ?delightfully tacky antiques?, and break them down into 5 basic categories:
1940?s ?I love Lucy & Ricky?s apartment?
1950?s ?Happy days in Mrs Beaver?s home?
1960?s ?From BoHo to Eames Era?
1970?s : ?A whole bunch of Brady?
Timeless ?Not so shabby cottage chic?
If you are a retro lover you probably know which style is your favorite. You might even know some brand names or key words to help you along. But do not limit yourself to having to find a complete set of vintage atomic dinnerware or glassware, mixing and matching is half the fun. Not only can retro pieces similar in design or color go together but they can also look wonderful mixed in with some new pieces. Pick a color scheme and try a eBay search using just the color and the words ?vintage and Retro? you might be pleasantly surprised by what you find. Retro Style Bowling Shirts are hot and in style!
Show Guide... There's something about wearing a classic styled garment. I've recently discovered a fantastic wardrobe staple, the classic bowling shirt (also known as a rockabilly style shirt). These shirts are making a big comeback.
These shirts once were relegated only to the bowling lanes for league play. Their loose fit was perfect for the movements bowlers made - buying the beer round or rolling strikes, these shirts rarely saw service outside of the hardwood confines of the lanes. Bowling teams donned similarly colored or styled shirts to adopt a uniform look - I think, to make bowling appear more sporty. But these styled shirts are making a comeback, for many reasons. Their cut is complimentary for any man's shape. Heck, I wear a 3XL myself and I feel doggone handsome in mine! Strong vertical stripes help any man look tall and strong - or at least taller and stronger than he is! These shirts look good on you, no matter if you're a Young Republican sporting a crew-cut, or you're covered in tattoos and piercings. I know for sure that I'm not going to look like the guy standing next to me. For most men, we like to express our individuality. Bowling shirts come in bold color schemes, stripes, sporting rock-and-roll themed embroidery, sexiness, and daring prints. You can easily find many styles of shirts to add to your wardrobe, especially here on eBay! There's something, too, about wearing clothing whose styling comes from a time that was a little slower, a little more stable than our own. AM radio played songs that were no longer than three minutes in length, families seemed more bonded, things didn't change as much. These shirts, this fashion ...

SAFE EBAY BUYING!
-
I have been buying antiques, collectable and vintage and used clothing for over 15 years and the very best advice I can give you for buying anything on ebay is too first read your sellers feedback rating by clicking on the numbers next to their ID. If you are buying anything used or vintage it usually is not in new condition unless stated as MINT condition. A good seller will list any flaws or imperfections. Of course people do miss things sometimes so if you do find something the seller missed then email them right away. A good seller will try their best to make things right. Make sure you read the sellers terms before you bid to avoid any disappointments on shipping cost or estimated time of arrival etc. and you will enjoy a hassel free ebay transaction and may pick up a super buy!
Guide To Funny And Humorous Shirts On Ebay
Show Guide... Guide To Funny And Humorous Shirts On Ebay
If you're looking for funny and humorous shirts, eBay is a one-stop shopping paradise. You can find every kind of funny shirt here--from zippy one-liners to novelty tees; barroom and bathroom humor to Shakespearean jests and insults. In fact, there are so many different kinds of funny and humorous shirts here that it helps to have at least some idea so that you can narrow your search.
If you're searching for straight-up "one liner" type tees, like "I'm Not With Stupid Anymore," "I'm Not Weird, I'm Gifted," or "More Cowbell," you might start by simply typing "funny t-shirts" into eBay's search feature. You'll be greeted with thousands of options instantly.
Funny shirts from favorite TV shows or movies aren't always categorized this way, however. If you're looking for shirts featuring your favorite characters, like Ron Burgundy, Napolean Dynamite, or Austin Powers, you might have to search using the character name. If you're looking for inspiration, consider a double search that includes your favorite TV program. For instance, you might look for South Park t-shirts, SNL or Saturday Night Live t-shirts, or Arrested Development t-shirts.
Finally, although most funny new t-shirts are quite affordable, vintage t-shirts can command top dollar. Genuine "Watchu Talkin' 'Bout, Willis" shirts from Diff'rent Strokes, for instance, will cost at least twice what they would new. If you're searching for a funny vintage t-shirt, make sure you're buying from a quality seller who knows that "vintage" is not merely the same thing as "used."
Rock n Roll Concert T-Shirts - How to be REALLY cool!
Show Guide... So you wanna be rock 'n' roll, huh? Besides actually going out there on
stage and performing your songs, there are a few things you gotta do to
develop street cred! Showing the world that above all, you have
discerning taste in music, is the first step in getting the respect you
are looking for. How do you take this first step?
Well, dressing the part is not a choice - it is a requirement. What you
wear can say a whole lot to the general public, as well as to those who
may also be into rock and roll. That is not to say that it is the only
thing, but it is a very significant step in the right direction.
First, you must decide what kind of message, or "look," you are trying
to convey. Are you a person that loves the more popular stuff of the
day, or do you consider yourself an afficianado? Do you go with a
classic rock style t-shirt and duds, or do you choose the witty phrase
on a modern rock band's shirt? Do you go with the concert/tour shirt,
or the more discerning, hard-to-find and collectible Local Crew
t-shirts? Be prepared to have a story about the Crew-Only shirt. In
other words, either work a show and proudly display the Crew shirt as a
trophy, or at least know a bit about where you got it from and why it
is special.
It is a fact that if you are into rock and roll, you must have at least
a few favorite black shirts. The
main reason for this choice of a color (or lack thereof) is due to the
way it contrasts in the bright spotlights and the way it blends in back
stage. It also just looks really cool to be dressed in all black.
A simple graphic or text might be the minimalist effect you want. A
large band logo might be just the ticket. The choice depends on what
your personality allows for. Are you outspoken and bold, or are you a
bit more timid? Sometimes, however, a bold person will wear a simple
phrase on his or her shirt...

Show Guide... Vintage NFL Jerseys - Guide to Top Vintage NFL Jerseys
Vintage NFL jerseys can be a terrific way to honor your favorite players of the past while making a stylish statement. Even if you don't choose to wear your vintage jersey out on the town, they can also be great additions to your collection of sports memorabilia and can even be framed and hung as work of art.
In addition to the actual vintage jerseys you may be able to find through antique apparel dealers, sports memorabilia dealers and private parties, it is also possible to find modern reproductions of vintage jerseys. Though they're made of all new materials, these reproductions are typically very meticulously crafted and based on the original versions.
A number of famous players have vintage reproduction jerseys made in their honor. For Atlanta Falcons fans, options may include a 1980 William Andrews jersey, a 1983 Steve Bartkowski jersey, or a 1989 Deion Sanders jersey. Chicago Bears fans will likely appreciate a 1970 Dick Butkus jersey, 1969 Gale Sayers jersey, or a 1975 Walter Payton jersey.
Minnesota Vikings fans might go for a 1976 Ahmad Rashad jersey, 1973 Chuck Foreman jersey, or 1975 Fran Tarkenton jersey. For Packers fans, there's the Bart Starr 1969 jersey, the Fuzzy Thurston 1966 jersey, the 1993 Reggie White jersey, and the 1961 Paul Hornung jersey. In fact, for every NFL team past and present, chances are that a good selection of your favorite vintage jerseys are available. Some of the most popular players even have multiple editions of jerseys, including dark and light versions and versions from different years.
