Buying and Using Plastic Canvas

Show Guide...

Plastic canvas crafting can be one of the most relaxing crafts to participate in! I've been using this craft form for over 20 years now (keep in mind, I learned at a very young age!).

There are a variety of very cute plastic canvas patterns out there. You can make virtually anything out of it! Plastic canvas is a grid like, mesh like, plastic material that can be molded and sewn to create a variety of wonderful ideas! You can make anything from ornaments to coasters, wall hangings to stuffed animals, napkin rings to placemats, earrings to necklaces, and the list goes on. Plastic canvas comes in various colors as well. There is a clear type that is what most people prefer to use, as it tends to not show through as much when stitched on. There are also colored sheets of canvas, practically any color of the rainbow! These are great when it is not necessary to cover the whole canvas sheet to create your project. They even make plastic canvas that glows in the dark! The plastic canvas comes in a variety of stiffnesses also. The ultra stiff plastic canvas holds up best for the large projects that require some sturdiness. The soft, flexible plastic canvas is great for projects that require some molding with them, such as forming different shapes. Plastic canvas comes in different mesh sizes as well. Depending on the size of your final project, you may choose a 14 count, 10 count, 7 count, 5 count, etc. of canvas.

Yarns: Depending on the size of the canvas you are using, you can use 4 ply, sport, baby yarn, or embroidery floss. There are some companies who have also made yarn specific for plastic canvas.

Patterns: There are tons of plastic canvas resources on eBay!! You can find a pattern for just about anything and most buyers are willing to combine shipping charges for multiple purchases. Are you new to plastic canvas? You can also find complete kits, including everything you...

Plastic Canvas Pattern Books

Show Guide...

I would like to highlight some of the things to look for when purchasing Plastic Canvas pattern books.  If you are new to Plastic Canvas, check a few of the items inside, read the instructions all the way through - to make sure they are clear.  Look over the cutting diagrams, again to confirm that they will be easily understood.  The patterns that are printed in color are also easier to follow.

It's always a plus when there are several patterns within the booklet.  There are pattern booklets that only have 3 or 4 projects.  I feel money is well spent if you see more than 3 patterns that you know you will want to make.

I also look for up-to-date styles or colors, especially when making plastic canvas projects for selling or gift giving.   I have found Needloft Plastic Canvas patterns to fullfill most of these points.  The House of White Birches, The American School of Needlearts, Annie's Attic as well as many others, are also Plastic Canvas pattern book distributors.

One good thing about purchasing pattern books, is it seems that they hold some resale value after you have finished with them.  Everyday there are new and beginning  plastic canvas crafters looking for exciting projects to do!

Needlepoint as Gifts and Canvas Embellishment

Show Guide...

Needlepoint is a much loved form or art.  As a stitcher myself I know the hard work that goes into each and every project.  This guide is to give you ideas and inform you of things available on the market today to help you become a better stitcher.  Along with fiber choices and ideas to enhance and embellish your project

Giving your project as a gift?  Many stitchers make holiday ornaments for gifts, consider making an ornament of something the recipient really loves for old movie and tv buffs try stitching a charachter or for the young at heart try stitching Alice in Wonderland or Peter Pan.  For a policemen or firemen try stitching an ornament of a police men or firemen.

If you are working on a piece for a child consider doing one of the popular charachters and finishing as a stand up, door hanger, piece to be mounted on the back of a jacket, or stuffed animal type, or pillow.

If you are a quilter also try using smaller pieces in the 5 X 7 range and adding the finished piece to your quilt as a panel.  Box tops, serving/dresser trays, photo album covers are all very unique beautiful gifts.  Weddings, Baby Showers, Welcoming of a New Baby or any special event needs photo's.  Choose from our enormous collection and in the 5 X 7 range or larger stitch a photo album cover that is sure to be treasured for years to come and will be a very unique gift!  Or a box top to be used as a photo box.

Canvas Embellishment:  It's important to remember when stitching that not all materials are moth proof!!!  All Silk threads and some wool threads are factory treated to be moth proof, a treasure that you make to last a generation to be turned into an heirloom needs top quality fibers while cotton is beautiful if your piece is not going under glass consider using silk or a treate...

CCC Product Info

Show Guide...

Hi,  My name is Jennifer the owner of Country Canvas Creations.  I started this business in July 2006. I have had good success with it so far.   I would like to share some info about plastic canvas.

Plastic Canvas is real easy to work with.  There are different Plastic canvas mesh sheets you can use.  There is 7 mesh, 10 mesh and 14 mesh.  The number of mesh is how many little squares in a square inch.  7 mesh has bigger holes while 14 mesh has the smallist holes.  I do all my work in 7 mesh.

I always use Red Heart yarn.  It is easy to work with and comes in assorted colors.  With 7 mesh you want to use a #16 needle and for the smaller canvas you would use a #24 needle.

You can make anything out of plastic canvas.  Home Decor, Holiday decor, Purses, Desk sets, Baskets, Caddys, Doll Furniture, Pet toys, Book Covers, Car antenna toppers, Things for your baby, Wall hangings, Flags, Banks and so much more.  You can design your own or follow patterns.  It is alot of fun.

I sell my Plastic Canvas Creations on Ebay and on my website.  I also sell at art and craft shows.  I have had good success with it so far.

You can check out my auctions to see some of what I make.  Thank you for taking the time to read my guide.  It is my first one.

Making pre cut plastic canvas easy!

Show Guide...

When you have a pattern to cut out of plastic canavs it is a good move to plan out the pattern first and make sure you have enough canvas for it. Lay out the pattern on the canvas using a dry erase marker or a crayon. They are both easy to come off with a baby wipe. Then follow the pattern square by square and make sure you cut off the nubs so they dont snag the yarn you use. Make sure the crayon or marker is wiped off thoroughly or it will transfer to the color of yarn. Any other questions feel free to ask me about it I will help as best as i can.
