Ralph Lauren Purple Label Frauds on EBAY (Mainly Shirts

Show Guide...

UPDATE:  THE QUICKEST WAY TO KNOW WHETHER IT'S A FRAUD OR NOT, THOUSANDS HAVE BEEN HELPED FROM FOLLOWING THESE RULES TO AVOID GETTING CHEAP RALPH LAUREN FAKES.

Thanks for your positive vote. (vote "Yes" below)  No doubt the negative votes are from the crooked sellers selling this fraudulent crap.  My hope is to keep people from getting ripped off, yet people are still getting ripped off everyday.  I see these Purple Label frauds and Ralph Lauren frauds everytime I look.

Does it really matter if you bought a fraud and it seems that no one notices?  The fact is yes.

Because good manners dictate that the most likely people you're trying to impress will also be the most likely to notice and the least likely to say anything (at least to you!).  These fakes are worth a few dollars at best.

Last year I noticed white, black and navy 'Ralph Lauren Purple Label' shirts in multiple sizes and quantities from a few sellers.

I ended up buying 2 of each color because I am unable to resist a good deal.  Upon arrival it was almost immediately apparent that these were not genuine.  The stitching on the placket was poor.  The fabric felt cheap and poorly woven and the buttons were the standard fare.

A trip down to the Polo shop to examine the genuine item revealed a few details to look for:

1.  Real Mother of Pearl Buttons that are of a smaller diameter that the standard ones and about twice as thick as the standard ones.

2.  Near perfect stitching and pattern matching throughout the shirt.  These same fraudulent sellers now have pattern shirts that give them selves away ...

How to detect FAKE / real AIR JORDAN / NIKE shoe guide

Show Guide...

-- SEE THE FAKE PICS  (((((((PLEASE VOTE)))))))   IF YOU PICKED UP ANY INFO-  THANKS

Appreciate knowledge and know that it is worth more than just a vote. It could mean saving you a big headache and $$$ later.

updated 1/27/2007 PRICE GUIDE- so check back often !      Read through it all, there is good info here.  It will be worth the 2-3 minute read.

The easiest way to verify if the shoe (Nike/JOrdan) are NOT a fake is to do research to see if that colorway has been released by the company.

There are several websites that offer the lineage of Nike/Jordan Brand shoes, revealing all colorways released.  Air-jordans.com is an excellent resource.

If it has been released your on your way to validation.  If the company HAS not released that colorway it is a fake.

If it has a POS stamp it is a FAKE.        ( B stamp is for blemish. )

These are a few pointers, there are MANY, MANY more indicators to show if a released colorway is a fake.

One obvious is the price, if it is to low, and the seller has MANY, most likely they are fake.

If they do not offer sizes outside of 7-13, most likely they are fake.

Fake Pink Pony, polo, or ralph lauren

Show Guide...

Ok First off I am a consumer like you , not an expert so I just am passing along info I have figured out because I have real pink pony from ralph lauren, and I bought a fake from a schister on ebay and I noted the following differences....  Be aware of sellers with big lots these could be fake from china etc.  If you are buying a sweatshirt ask the seller if the zipper puller says polo engraved in the puller. It will also have a pink tab puller. If is does not it is counterfit. The other way to tell is if the tags on the inside sewn in are wrinkled and look like they were just sewn in after manufacture. The tags, could in addition have frays and crooked stitch. This is a tall tale sign that these are fakes. Lastly ask to see a close up of the pink pony design. If you see any fading or not clear crisp design this is also fake. There are a lot of counterfiters out there was one that sold one to me and I got my money back because I prooved that it was FAKE to the seller. Don't take this lying down. You can report all counterfiters to the security center. Take action on these people and get them booted off of EBAY. The powers that be at ebay strictly go off consumer complaints,  they have no way check quality or authenticy of merchandise. If you don't do anything it will continue.....

Fake TOMMY BAHAMA

Show Guide...

Welcome, Tommy Bahama Enthusiasts

Everyone who either sells or buys Tommy Bahama is buying into a total lifestyle and not just a line of clothing. We appreciate the fine quality of the Tommy Bahama merchandise. What we don't need is to be worried about questions of our shirt's authenticity or whether it will fall apart in the wash.

Don't get ripped off by horrible Tommy Bahama FAKES out there! Do your research, and purchase the REAL deal!

Answers to some Common Questions:

How can I tell if an item is a fake prior to purchase?
There are several things you should look for prior to purchase to ensure that the Tommy Bahama item you are about to bid on is probably authentic.

  •  Be sure that you are buying from a reputable Tommy Bahama Seller.. In addition, check a seller's feed back rating and actually read some of the comments. Make sure that they have long and positive feedback.
  • Make sure the style item that you are considering bidding on is a legitimate Tommy Bahama style. For example - Tommy Bahama NEVER made a Harley Davidson Shirt!!! The silk prints are not authentic Tommy Bahama prints. There ARE hundreds of fake embroidered shirts that are copies of actual TB shirts.
  •   Ask questions before you bid -  Be sure to ask, what the style name and number are?  Ask, What does Tommy Bahama call this color?  Ask, If the seller obtained their Tommy Bahama items directly from China OR from a Flea Market?  Ask,  Do...

For many men, the body of a dress shirt is considerably wider than their actual body sillhouette. Nothing looks worse than a well-dressed man with a messy-looking shirt tucking -- bunched up in the back and uneven. There are steps to correctly tucking a shirt tail just as there are steps to making a correct Windsor knot in a tie.

Start with trousers open and unzipped, slid down to the hips, with legs spread apart to keep them up. Button shirt in the front, all the way down, then smooth the excess fabric to the back sides amd grasp it on either side, making a pleat, as in Picture #1.

Spotting Fake Multicolor Big Pony Polo Shirts

    Show Guide...

I have an authentic Polo multicolor big pony polo shirt that I purchased from polo.com. I have seen many fakes on ebay! Here is my advice on spotting fakes, as compared to my authentic multicolor Polo:

    • These shirts are a limited edition, one time production that can only be purchased at polo.com and Ralph Lauren stores for $114 (including shipping and taxes). It is not logical that someone would spend that amount of money per shirt and then re-sell it on ebay at a loss.
    • The multicolor polos are available in the following colors only: French Navy blue, Northwest Pine green, White, Polo Black, RL 2000 red, and Newport Navy blue. Any other color is a fake.
    • The number on the sleeve is always "4", not 3, 5, or 6, as I have seen on some ebay fakes. The number should be red or white only... with the exception of the RL 2000 red, which has a blue number 4.
    • The most obvious way to spot a fake multicolor is by looking at the two side "vent hems" at the bottom hem of the shirt - The authentic ones are ALWAYS reinforced with a contrasting colored grosgrain ribbon. I have yet to see this detail on the fakes. (View the pictures at polo.com to see the vents to which I refer.)
    • The polo pony in the pictures of the fakes also seems to be too light in color and the pony's eye seems to be much more round and open than on the authentic ones.
    • UPDATE: A friend bought a fake multicolor big pony Polo on eBay because he didn't want to pay the price Ralph Lauren charges. The fabric o...

How to tell if your Lacoste is Fake

      Show Guide...

Hello, this is a guide about Lacoste, on ebay mostly 90% of Lacoste shirts are fake. I think that is crazy, and most of the fake ones are being sold for the 30 dollar range, which is a lot because that is how much most of the real ones are. This guide will tell you what is a fake and what is not... It will help you buying many shirts other then lacoste shirts on Ebay.

      DISTRIBUTION
I'm sick and tired of ebayers saying because I buy in bulk I can sell cheap.  This would be true if Lacoste sold wholesale to individuals, but they don't.  Lacoste only sells to its authorized dealers etc, its own stores and stores like Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Urban Outfitters... etc.  Then a common response to me has been well they are factory seconds.  Lacoste DOES NOT sell factory seconds they destroy them.  Lacoste strives for the highest quality and would not want their name ruined by a factory second this is why they stop producing with Izod for years now. Now, to give you an idea of what the cheapest a Lacoste shirt can get, Lacoste at their factory outlet which is basically last seasons Lacoste, are discounted around 40% that is what I have been told by Lacoste employees.

      THE BUTTONS

The Buttons are one of the signature aspects of the Lacoste shirt.  All Genuine Lacoste shirts use Mother of Pearl Buttons.  Since Mother of Pearl (MOP) is produced by good old mother nature, no two buttons are alike.  Also on the darker Lacoste shirts the buttons will be a darker MOP.  Also all Genuine Lacoste shirts will only have two holes in their buttons sewn vertically.  Now there is some debate out there if Lacoste shirts can have three buttons and the answer is yes, but the solid color shirts will only have two.

      Now a fake Laco...

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE NAT NAST CAMP SHIRT

      Show Guide...

I am a lover of Nat Nast products, especially their silk camp shirts.  The quality cannot be beat.  I love the relaxed style, vivid colors and creative embroidery.

Since many sellers list Nat Nast products on ebay, I wanted to let you how to spot a "true" Nat Nast silk camp shirt.  I do not work for Nat Nast and I am not an expert.  The following is my opinion from years of experience selling Nat Nast on ebay.

The buttons will be engraved with "Nat Nast Luxury Originals."

The label sewn into the shirt will also have "Nat Nast ® Luxury Originals Since 1946.  Make sure their logo - the lion wearing a crown is there too.

The embroidered Lion Logo can also be found at the front hem.

Inside the shirt you will find a white rectangle tag. This is sewn into the side seam.  I noticed that the older shirts do not have color name listed.

Whenever you purchase anything on ebay, make sure you are buying from a reputable seller. Check out their feedback. If you feel the item you purchased is a fake, contact ebay's safe harbor.

The ABC's of Hawaiian Aloha Shirts

      Show Guide...

The following are my opinions and observations based upon my experience in selling hundreds of Hawaiian aloha shirts over the past years. Many of the terms are used in my listing descriptions so it's my intention that this guide will benefit the consumer in making better informed buying decisions. I'm now able to tell the brand and material of an aloha shirt someone else is wearing...most of the time! Yes, sometimes I even ask them, if it is an especially nice looking shirt...then I compliment them. This is a continuing work in progress and I hope you enjoy it.

      *A*

Aloha: Celebrates the spirit of the Islands...laid-back, easy-going, and just plain fun.

Andrade: Island specialty men's clothing retailer.

Anthurium: Easily recognizable heart-shaped flowers in Hawaii; usually white. Often found in Aloha shirt designs/patterns.

      *B*

Bamboo: Popular theme in patterns. Sometimes used for buttons.

      Barkcloth: Very dense, textured material.

Bluewater Wear: Made in the continental USA. Themes reflect the coastal lifestyle.

Bottom hem: The bottom hem of aloha shirts are always cut straight for wearing outside of pants or shorts. Often-times, side vents (slits) are also included. Rarely, I have seen extra-long tails (back of shirt, bottom hem) on Hawaiian shirts.

Breadfruit: Tropical Hawaiian tree with large, thick leaves with lobes. The fruit is light green. Often used in shirt prints.

Buttons: Coconut wood is still the most desired. Many vintage shirts have metal buttons. Plastic is the most common as is wood. Oyster and abalone shell are exquisite being found mainly with top-of-the-line Tori Richard shirts.

      *C*

Collar: The traditonal aloha shirt has a large pointed collar. Shirts have evolved to a more tailored look with button-down coll...

FAKE ABERCROMBIE Beware! Men's polo shirts fakes

      Show Guide...

Most seller's of Abercrombie Men's shirts are genuine and real.

But there are tell tale signs of fakes....

      1. Ones that sell in mass quantity of the same identical shirts or just mass amount of shirt period. They sell for prices in the $8-15 range. There has been couple sellers selling like over 100 shirts at once. Many copy or imitation shirts are coming from overseas, like hong kong which is a neighboring country to china where a huge flow of imitations are coming through..Believe me, I went there and saw it with my own eyes.

Its unbelievable how buyers would rather pay $3-4 less for a  fake and on top of that wait at least a longer week because they are coming from overseas. I wish I can educate more buyers but the only way I can gain exposure are readers like you clicking the YES button below to gain more popularity in search ranking.

      2. Check too see that the buttons are nice and thick and engraved with the moose insignia or AF. Back of the button should a be pearl white color as the front is ivory color.

(Does not always apply to older generation shirts or women's shirts)

      3. The slot where the button goes through should be nicely woven exposing good amount of thread.

3.Overall feel of the shirt should feel nice and think not thin and see through. The collars should feel thick and tightly woven. Not thin and flimsy.

      4. Check the label, the letters should be very slightly raised and embossed.

      5. Check to see the label is stitched on top of a fabric so that there is a piece of fabric between the shirt and the label.

(May not always apply to older generation shirts.)

      6. The double layer neck tape fabric should be nicely sewn onto the collar and nice and thick. I see...

A genuine Lacoste polo shirt can be distinguished from

      Show Guide...

A genuine Lacoste polo shirt can be distinguished from a counterfeit from the following:

"Mother of pearl" buttons - buttons made out of mother of pearl and are exclusive to genuine Lacoste shirts. Since mother of pearl is a naturally occurring substance, no two buttons should be exactly the same in appearance. These buttons should be devoid of any lettering or logos. Also, the buttonholes are horizontal positioned and perpendicular to the two holes on each button.

In polo shirts for men, the crocodile is embroidered on a patch then hand sewn onto the shirt, not directly on the shirt. In polo shirts for women, it is embroidered onto the shirt.

Tag is included with a genuine code instead of a generic one. (The generic one is usually 8558.)

The size is always a number (European sizes 34, 36, 38 etc./US sold shirts are numerically sized as 3,4,5 etc.) not a letter (S, M, L) and is on the same tag with the logo and brand name.

The crocodile logo should be about halfway between the second button and placket. It should never be side-by-side with the placket.

The real Lacoste crocodile logo is very detailed. It will be stitched on with high-quality thread and have clear colors and lines. On a real logo, the claws are visible and the tail is rather thin and ends in a pointy tip. The faux logos usually have rounded paws, super-wide mouths and a fatter tail that ends in a blunt tip.

Dress Shirt Collars and Cuffs Explained

      Show Guide...

Nine Dress Shirt Collars and Two Dress Shirt Cuffs

In this article, the DeCalo Fashion Italian menswear expert introduces nine important types of dress shirt collars and two different types of cuffs

      Turndown collars

The most formal dress shirt collar today is also the most common. Known also by the name "straight-point collar," the turndown collar will vary in the length of the tips and their distance from each other, but essentially consists of a wide neck and relatively long points that extend downward to form a triangular opening at the neck that is ideal for showcasing the knot of your necktie. Men with short necks can use a shorter collar to lengthen the appearance of the neck. Men with long necks can use a longer collar to make their necks appear shorter.

      Cutaway collars

Also called the "wide spread collar," the cutaway collar is like a turndown collar with the points pushed as far apart as possible. This leaves a wide gap at the neck of the dress shirt that allows even wide necktie knots to be displayed prominently. The cutaway collar is widely considered more elegant than a turndown collar.

      Roll collar

Invented in the US, the roll collar is essentially a long, wide turn down collar with buttons at the collar tips. Well-made roll collars generally have a soft finish. Combined with the buttoned tips, the finish gives your dress shirt a less formal look than other collars. The roll co...

      Show Guide...

6 years ago I would never have thought someone could get away with selling a fake on ebay. especially not a "power seller" who buy in "large quantities" but happens to ship straight from hong kong. ha.

The thin about one seller I purchased from is that the fake was extremely good. very very detailed stitching with high quality cotton and everything on it as kosher as can be. but you do a blindfold test of those two with two others from ebay and 20 in my closet from major retailers in the usa and you will know the difference. some people say polos just have snug fit in comparison to something else. fine. so i buy the larger size so i won't have snugger fit. but i bought same exact product from power seller who guaranteed authenticiy. but the only way you would know is if you were measuring the sections of cloth from seem to seem. the killer is I LOVE THE SHIRTS. THey are beautiful. but after wearing polos for 20+ years and having 40 (at least) of the exact same shirt in multiple numbers of multiple colors, the only place where there is any variation in fit or appearance is these two shirts.

so what good does it do you? i don't know. unless you are a little chubby and don't want the garmet sticking to you, you probably wont notice. it is just too bad that it happens.

i have seen the fakes and these did not look like fakes. but when i put them on, there were obvious differences in shoulders, arms, length and width from the exact same color, size and line/style that i buy here.

so i am going to stick to TJMAx, dillards, foleys, neimans and the polo shop and outlet. and unless it is very well priced, you should too. or just b uy two sizes too big!

Authentic or Imitation - Polo Ralph Lauren Products

      Show Guide...

This guide will be an overview to imitation products with future guides exploring specifics in shirts/pants/brands/silhouettes/etc.

First let me say that as of this writing have sold over 4,000 shirts manufactured by Polo Ralph Lauren and the various brands that fall under their umbrella.

For the remainder of this guide I will use PRL to refer to Polo Ralph Lauren. PRL is one of the most commonly recognized brands for quality product, when you see the polo player logo (probably the most well known of the various emblems used by PRL) you know it is a quality item and will last for several years.

Imitations are an inferior product in material and/or workmanship, they are taking advantage of the brand and harm the brand at the same time. They usually do not fit the same and never look as good after a few trips to the washer/dryer.

Lets talk in general terms, what you should look for, and what to expect.

If purchasing from eBay, or other web site, you can not see or touch the actual item. You have to go by the picture, description and the seller?s reputation. This makes it a little more difficult to decide what is authentic and what is not.

Many people have certain ideas about why a certain shirt on eBay is or is not an imitation.

Lets discuss some of the most common.

      1. If it is not at polo.com it has to be fake.

Not necessarily. The polo.com website changes available stock very, very often. If an item is not listed on the polo.com it is not automatically an imitation. It could have been removed days or weeks prior or PRL did not include the item on their site. Department stores will also have items available that are no longer on the Polo.com website

      2. It is in a poly bag, it must be real.

False. Next time you are in a departme...

      Spotting Authentic Abercrombie Items!

      Show Guide...

There are hundreds of sellers out there getting all of their Abercrombie items from China or some other foreign country.  Most sellers buy their items in bulk (large) orders to get a big discount on them.  This is the reason that they can sell their items for so cheap.  These sellers scam buyers all the time telling them that they are genuine authentic Abercrombie products.  This guide will tell you how to spot these fake Abercrombie products and tell you how to find the authentic ones.

The first thing is watch out for the sellers that have a lot of the same item.  Abercrombie does not distribute their products to other companys, they only sell their products in stores or online.  If you see a seller that has 5 pairs of the same Abercrombie jeans on ebay then they're probably fake.

Look for the quality of the products your buying.  If you're looking for Ezra Fitch jeans make sure to ask for a picture of the back leather patch.  There's more details on that in my other guide which you can get to here: http://reviews.ebay.com/How-To-Find-Authentic-Abercrombie-Ezra-Fitch-Jeans_W0QQugidZ10000000001299390?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:SEARCH:2

If you're buying Abercrombie polos look at the buttons.  All Abercrombie polos shirts have 2 buttons and 2 buttons only.  If there's 3 it's fake.  The seam where the buttons are located are really chunky.  They're not thin like a lot of the fake polos that you'll see.  Also look for knicking and grinding on the collar and the buttom hem.  If you can't see a good picture of the collar ask for one from the seller.&...

      Ralph Lauren Pink Pony

      Show Guide...

I have bought 8 different "Ralph Lauren Pink Pony" items on EBay over the last 6 months or so.  All of them said they were "authentic".  I am not sure of the authenticity of any of them, if they are authentic they are definately seconds.  I bought 2 polos from 2 different sellers, I also happen to already own the same Big Pony polos that I had bought in a Ralph Lauren store in other colors.  The two that I bought from EBay were at least 5 inches shorter than than the originals bought at the Lauren store (yes they were the same size and style).  They were pretty much useless to me, so I gave them to my daughter who is a size 4, she wore them once and after I washed them they shrunk so badly that they would now maybe fit a small child, and again, I stress maybe.  They were labeled womens large, I would say they are equivalent to a childs size 10 now....Buyers beware, you get what you pay for.  I also bought 2 different tote bags, one was a "mini" my fault because I did not realize that the mini that they were selling was not the same as in the Lauren stores, also the other bag I bought does not even exist in the Lauren stores, it is similar, but it is not the same thing....again buyers beware you get what you pay for.  One last thing to add, I once was a buyer for a very prestigious department store and Lauren was one of the lines I bought, I guess I thought that I was getting a bargain, but my money would have been better spent buying 2 items at regular price than having 8 items that just sit in my closet, that I will be donating to charity later this year.
