Reviews & GuidesTrash to Treasure with HP Roses: Shabby HP Rose DecalsI paid $16.43 for this pile of "diamonds in the rough" at Goodwill. Most people would see it as junk, but I see blank canvases for some lovely roses for my garden theme guestroom. You can find full size photos and more detailed instructions and tips in my eBay store: We are redecorating our guest bedroom - I want to do a shabby chic / garden theme - on NO budget... and I heard the local Goodwill calling my name! My goal is to create a "Garden Retreat" to make guests feel special, pampered, & loved. Paint is a great way to customize & breathe new life into boring old items. I love to take an old garage sale find and give it a "Shabby Chic Makeover" with white paint & roses. However, my efforts at hand painting roses sometimes turn out less than lovely. If you aren't so handy with a paintbrush, you can create the handpainted look we all love with decals made from hand painted china. You can order these decals, or custom decals to coordinate with your own home decor theme in my eBay store: Cozy-Cottage Deco... Twinkie's Toolbox: Shabby Style is Easy & Fun!eBay is an incredible resource for shabby decorative arts. Look in just about any buying category and you'll find something listed. It's eclectic, varied, and just about anything goes. Patterns, colors, and a good look are all important things to consider in decorating. And...some of it is very expensive.
Here are some tips:
Above all else, the foundation of shabby decorative style is about transforming a hum drum piece into something eye-catching, amusing, and most of all - functional. Delicate isn't always shabby; it can be very impractical. Don't be afraid to experiment with color; not everything can be pink, white, and covered with cabbage roses.
When I buy something I look for what I call "good bones." If a piece is well-made, sturdy, and most of all, functional - then anything goes. Never be afraid of dirt, a cracked piece of glass, or even rusty hardware. Anything and everything can be renovated if it has "good bones."
Right now, I'm listing a beat-up bathroom cabinet. I spent hours scraping off the lead paint. I'm hoping that it won't sell, so I can refinish it myself. When YOU take the time to do the priming, you find yourself beginning to look at the piece in a whole different light. This cabinet is perfect for hot, bright colors. Imagine opening up a bathroom cabinet and finding it lined with purple and green-striped paper! I'll have a shopping frenzy finding the perfect decorative hardware for the sides.
I love to buy inexpensive plates on eBay. I'll deliberately look for the ones with a chip - they're less expensive. I love pink and red transferware. Some are Wedgewood, others are willoware. When you put together a collection, it looks like you. They don't have to be in mint condition. They just have to look good together.
Six-paned windows and french windows are very popular. They're so vers... ?Signs, signs, everywhere signs!? How to buy a sign! You want to buy a sign? I'd like to offer a few suggestions of what exactly to look for in choosing just the right sign for your needs and wants! There are so many signs offered on eBay that it does get a little tricky grinding your way though item after item. I hope I can help! First thing: Notice what material the sign is made from. Often the IMPORTED signs are difficult to recognize, they are often offered as wood and in reality are very thinly made pressed board material. You will find many kinds of media for signs. Here's a few: wood (lumber, boards); MDF (medium density fiberboard-another type of pressed board); plywood (can be in various thicknesses); wafer board (usually 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch thickness); hardboard; particleboard; slate; metal and more! Some sign sellers do not even mention what their signs are made from so be sure to ask them before you purchase! Always know what you're getting, less disappointments that way. As far as WOOD or LUMBER, there are many tree species that can be used. I personally most always use PINE (there are even varieties of each specie, ie: Pine could be Ponderosa Pine, Southern Yellow Pine, etc.). I occasionally use Western Red Cedar (not Incense Cedar, that would go on the floors of your closet!). Other REAL WOOD signs could be made of Douglas Fir, Cypress, or even Redwood and many, many more. Second thing: Pay attention to what the size is! In lumber language, for instance, a pice of 2X4 is NOT actually 2 inches by 4 inches. Instead the nominal size is usually 1 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches, but it's still called a 2X4.&n... Here's Your Sign - A Guide to Buying the Right AddressUnless you are in the Witness Protection Program, you need to clearly identify your home! Despite common misconceptions, 911 personnel are not clairvoyant and do not know which house is yours. Have you ever tried blinking the porch light for EMS to know where your house is WHILE administrating CPR? This guide will make some helpful suggestions to consider when purchasing your address sign. Consider this: "Your chance of surviving a cardiac arrest are reduced by 7%-10% EACH MINUTE you have to wait for emergency technicians to arrive." ---The American Heart Association--- "Over 100,000 people die each year simply because help did not arrive on time." ---National Safety Council--- We have so much modern technology that can direct us to the area, even the street you live on. Most 911 responders don't have access to these expensive, high-tech devises. Even if they do, it still doesn't tell them which house is yours. You or a loved one may die in the time span it takes an ambulance to drive past your house, realize they must have gone too far, and turn around to come back. When my father had heart attack, EMS drove by his home 3 times! He survived but barely! The extra time it took to help him changed the quality of his life forever. This happened 12 years ago. For the last eleven years, we have been researching ways to better identify house addresses. Buying Time And Shipping TimesI have been on Ebay Selling for a few years now! I have come to find out that if you purchase an item before Wednesday, it usually gets shipped out that week. Most businesses have 7 to 10 days shipping! That means, Saturday and Sunday do not count toward your shipping days. So for example: if you purchased an item before a Wednesday, (example: May 15th) you are more than likely to receive your item by Friday of the next week (May 25th) Which is 7 businesses days! Also many sellers on Ebay have rush shipping, but I have to say unless you really need it quick, it's a waste of money! Plan ahead, check out each listing and get your best deal on your item and shipping! Sellers have different shipping rates. Some sellers pass their shipping discounts on to buyers, some do not! It's a good idea to ask any questions before buying! A good seller will almost always answer your questions! In my Ebay Store, I have my shipping cost at what I am charged, I do not raise them! Questions are always answered! So if you are looking for a great deals and a trusted seller, please visit my Ebay Store at: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=2364470&mpre=http://stores.ebay.com/Debs-Special-Connections And as always my motto to each and every customer: THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! BUYER BEWARE - HIGH SHIPPING COSTI have been selling on Ebay now since 2001. When my daughter purchased a hair straighten on Ebay....that cost $12.00 and she paid $80.00 in shipping...I WAS NOT A REAL HAPPY PERSON!!! NOW I don't know about you....but someone made some really good money on that sale, mainly on SHIPPING COST!!! YES...SHIPPING COST!!! This item could have been mailed alot cheaper, it should have cost no more than $12.99. I know shipping is not cheap and I highly recommend that items be shipped using some sort of tracking number. Such as USPS Priority Mail or UPS. Now if I am figuring correctly on that curling iron someone made a HUGH PROFIT OF: $67.01 ON SHIPPING COST!!!!! If you as a BUYER look closely at the item you are purchasing you can see for yourself. Sometimes you think, MAN I AM GETTING AN AWESOME DEAL!!! Guess what, when you check out, you will find you paid $2.00 for your item and $40.00, $50.00 or even $60.00 or more on SHIPPING COST!!! THIS MY FRIEND IS NOT A DEAL!!!! YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF!!!!!!! So here are some very simple ways to not get RIPPED OFF!!! MEANING OF YOUR FIRST NAME Create A Perfect Gift For Any Occasion |
