GARDEN WITCHERY - MAGICK FROM THE GROUND UP

Show Guide...

What is Garden Witchery?  For some people, garden witchery conjures up images of lush, enchanted gardens where butterflies dance and children play.  Wind chimes sing in the breeze and fountains trickle and splash.  In this magickal place, the witch who lives there strolls about under sunny skies or dappled moonlight, garthering plants for her spellwork and for their fragrance.  Fantasy?  No.  All of those things are possible in a city, suburban, or rural yard.

Suburban magickal gardens are a reality.  You can do it.  All it takes is hard work, determination and time.  Let's add two more very important magickal ingredients to this mixture:  you and your imagination.

Use yours for a moment to visit me in my magickal gardens.  Just come as you are.  How will you find me?  I can usually be found working in the gardens, toting around a five-gallon bucket full of gardening supplies, I am typically crawling around on my hands and knees, attired in sturdy clothes and sunglasses with my "gardening" hat.  It's more likely I'll either be planting or weeding in the gardens.  I'm probably grubby and having a great time.

Sorry for the lack of mystique.  There is no big drama here.  I am a very down-to-earth gardener.

So you want to learn about magickal gardening?  Let's first look at your hands (I'm not looking to see if you have a "Green Thumb"), I'm looking to see if you have strong, capable hands.  You will also need to have an open and loving heart, and determination.

A garden wit...

WHAT WICCA/WITCHCRAFT IS

Show Guide...

Basic Philosophy

Wicca, or Witchcraft, is an earth religion -- a re-linking (re-ligio) with the life-force of nature, both on this planet and in the stars and space beyond. In city apartments, in suburban backyards, in country glades, groups of women and men meet on the new and full moons and at festival times to raise energy and put themselves in tune with these natural forces. They honor the old Goddesses and Gods, including the Triple Goddess of the waxing, full, and waning moon, and the Horned God of the sun and animal life, as visualizations of immanent nature.

Our religion is not a series of precepts or beliefs, rather we believe that we each have within ourselves the capacity to reach out and experience the mystery -- that feeling of ineffable oneness with all Life. Those who wish to experience this transcendence must work, and create, and participate in their individual religious lives. For this reason, our congregations, called covens, are small groups which give room for each individual to contribute to the efforts of the group by self-knowledge and creative experimentation within the agreed-upon group structure or tradition.

There are many traditions or sects within the Craft. Different groups take their inspiration from the pre-Christian religions of certain ethnic groups (e.g. Celtic, Greek, Norse, Finno-Ugric); in the liturgical works of some modern Witch poet or scholar (e.g. Gerald Gardner, Z Budapest, Alex Sanders, Starhawk); or by seeking within themselves for inspiration and direction. Many feminists have turned to Wicca and the role of priestess for healing and strength after the patriarchal oppression and lack of voice for women in the major world religions.

Buying Voodoo Dolls on eBay

by Voodoo Mama

Let's face it, as the most popular symbol of a largely misunderstood religion, Voodoo dolls have endured a bad rap. The media have conjured up negative images of Voodoo that incorporates satanic evil-doers, bloody sacrifices, and ugly, pin-sticking dolls used for hexing your neighbor. On the contrary authentic Voodoo dolls have many personalities, a lot of character, and multiple uses that are both positive and practical. The purpose of this guide is to provide the consumer with general information about New Orleans style Voodoo dolls, guidelines for selection, and finding and buying Voodoo dolls on eBay.

Voodoo Primer

The word Voodoo means spirit of God. Voodoo believers accept the existence of one God, below which are powerful spirits known as loas. These powerful spirits are responsible for the daily matters in life such as love, family, money, happiness, wealth and revenge. Offerings are made to the appropriate loa to ensure success in these areas, and ancestors are consulted for guidance and protection. The primary goal of Voodoo is the healing of relationships between the individual and self, others, and God.

There is no one way to practice Voodoo. In fact, New Orleans Voodoo is an inclusive religion that embraces and reflects its multicultural environment. New Orleans Voodoo is unique in that initiation is not required to be a practitioner. Because of the constant influx of cultures over time, New Orleans Voodoo is comprised of Cuban inspired Santeros, mambos and hougans who are Haitian initiates, others who follow the Obean rootwork of  Belize, Bahamas, and Dominican Republic, others who follow th...

Intuition VS. Memorization: How to read Tarot

Show Guide...

How do you memorize the cards? It's a common question with a simple surface issue. However, if you dip below that surface, you will find a darkness lurking there in the waters. What are we really asking when we say, "How do I memorize the cards?" Is that truly the question or is the actual thought "How do I trust myself? "

I believe that it is more of a self trust issue than it is an actual learning problem. Our challenge is to understand that "gut instinct" can and should be listened to. The Tarot is a tool of opening. See the cards as 78 keys to your own subconscious. Each one opens a door to our own inner guide who will help us see what we need to see. That voice in our heads that we have all been told makes us crazy if we listen to it is actually what many people refer to as "psychic power".

I firmly believe that each of us is psychic. It is how we approach that idea that individualizes us. Perhaps you were raised to think of psychics as that crazy old lady down the street with too many cats who reads cards and burns candles. Or you see a willowy woman wrapped in scarves wearing enough bracelets to start up her own jewelry kiosk in the mall. But when you look in the mirror, do you see yourself as psychic? I didn't think so. It is rare that any of us do.

We've been taught that it's "just a fluke" when we know who is calling when we pick up the phone. It's coincidence that you brake going over a hill in case something is there and you narrowly miss a deer. It's luck when you choose one lottery card over another and win $5. It's cheating when you know what card someone just picked up in the poker game. Ok, so that IS cheating even if you can do it.

But when you look at a piece of stiff paper brightly colored depicting a young man with a dog at his heels and a smile on his face stepping out over...

How to Purchase Magickal and Metaphysical Jewelry

Metaphysical and magickal jewelry works best when it is a created with a specific purpose in mind and focused into the piece.  It also works best when it is also created for a specific person, but that doesn't mean that the person has to be known when piece is made - haven't you ever seen a stone, ring, or something else that you just know is meant to be yours?  Especially with hand-made items, this generally means that something about that piece is calling to you.  It could have to do with what the creator was thinking about when they made the item or some particular detail that was added to it that makes it stand out to you.  All hand-made items are made with someone in mind, with the thought that it will appeal to a particular person out there, even when their name isn't known to the artist creating the object.

Jewelry works best in magick and healing when it is made by hand because it has that much more energy and intent focused into it.  Items created by machines don't have a focused energy or intent - other than to be used generically and sold.to the masses.  They are rarely special and not very individual.  Most healers and witches are very particular about their magickal and healing tools since it is important that they work properly, which requires attention in their making.

Pre-Owned or New?

It usually isnt' a good idea to purchase pre-owed magickal or metaphysical jewelry, although there isn't any hard and fast rule about it.  To begin with, most pieces advertised as belonging to any witch or healer doesn't necessarily mean that they will work for you as they for their previous owner.  A cleansing in this case would be very, very important so that you don&apos...

ALL ABOUT WICCA,WITCHCRAFT,OLD RELIGION,THE CRAFT ECT.

Show Guide...

WELCOME TO THE ONCE WAYS A GUIDE TO WICCA,WITCHCRAFT,THE OLD RELIGION,THE CRAFT.

Wicca is a pagan religion containing traditions of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. (Pagan religion family includes Druidism, Asatru, wiccan, Greek, and Roman ). Its origins can be traced even further back to Paleolithic peoples who worshipped a Hunter God and a Fertility Goddess. Cave paintings found in France (and dated at 30,000 years old) depict a man with the head of a stag, and a woman with a swollen, pregnant belly. They stand in a circle with eleven mortals. These archetypes of the divine are worshipped by Wiccans to this very day.
In 1951, the laws against Witchcraft were repealed in England. A man named Gerald Gardner was the first to come into the public eye with a description of what modern witches were practicing. His information came from the traditions of a coven called the New Forest Witches, and from Ceremonial Magic and the Cabballah. He began what is now called the Gardnerian Tradition of Wicca. From Gardnerian came Alexandrian Tradition, and a host of other offshoots that today number in the hundreds.
For two thousand years the image of the Witch has been associated with evil, heathenism, and blasphemy. These ideas have their origin in Christian myths created to convert members of the Old Religion to that of the new, Christianity. By making the Witch into a diabolical character of ill intent and action, the Christian missionaries were able to attach fear to a word that had once meant HEALER, WISE ONE, and SEER. These fears are present to this day. When we think of the archetypal image of the Witch, we remember the evil enchantress of childhood tales. We think of an old, wrinkled hag with a nasty wart on her nose. We think of hexes, and devils, and foul incantations chanted around a bubbling cauldron. While the modern witches have be...

Haunted, TIPS FOR SPOTTING FAKES

haunted, paranormal, enchanted, spells, paranormal, metaphysical, genie, marid, djinn, jinn, magick, faery, fairy, How do I tell if the seller is authentic??

Merry Meet! I have been getting many questions from some of you asking me how to tell if a seller is genuine. Lately there has been a flood of sellers claiming to be selling authentic items and they are only taking advantage of good people! So, I would like to give you all a few hints on how to spot the fakes.

Please don't take me wrong, There are many authentic sellers on ebay but there are also some that just see dollar signs. This is very disturbing to me and I know to some of you as well!

 HERE ARE A FEW TIPS

First~check their feedback, ALL THE WAY BACK!!! Be cautious of 'private' feedback or ones with very low feedback!!! Check their feedback all the way to the last page. To do this click on their feedback score and then go to the highest numbered page of their feedback. Look to see what they started selling on ebay. If they started by selling books, movies, clothes...in other words, every day items and now suddenly they are selling paranormal items, Watch out!!

Second~Be cautious of sellers that don't say were they are really from!! Places like "near salem mass" or 'magickal place usa' These sellers don't want to let you know were they really are so there is no way for you to find them if there is a problem!!

How to trade on eBay without getting ripped off

How to trade on eBay without getting ripped off

There are 3 main ways people get ripped off when it comes to trading on eBay. They get ripped off by a buyer, by a seller, or their info is stolen through fraudulent emails claiming to be ebay or paypal. I will give you some tips to keep you safe in this guide.

#1 "Spoofed" emails claiming to be from paypal or ebay.

From an email I got from ebay: "Emails such as this, commonly referred to as "spoof" or "phished"

messages, are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal or financial information from the recipients."

They look very much like regular ebay and paypal emails, and are usually telling you about a "problem" with your account, your password, your shipment, your payment. I decided to write this guide after getting two of these emails so far today alone. Your credit card has been declined; your payment for seller fees can not be processed; we are confirming your bid on this outrageously priced item you would never want; all sorts of good things to make you go "Uh oh, I better fix this."

How can you spot a spoof?

A. For starters, anything that really IS from ebay appears not just in your regular email, it is in your my messages on the ebay site. Any email sent to your registered eBay email address from eBay or from another eBay member via eBay's member-to-member communication system will now appear in My Messages. Just remember, if you get an email to your registered eBay email address that looks like it's from eBay about a problem with your account or requesting personal information, check My Messages first. If it's not there, it's a fake email.

Do you have to be Wiccan to be a witch?

Show Guide...

There is a lot of confusion these days about these 2 terms, and many think the terms are synonymous. Before delving into specifics of each, let's start by pointing out the difference between witches and Wiccans.

- A witch is a person who practices magic/spellcraft.

- A Wiccan is a person who practices Wicca, an earth based pagan religion.

A Wiccan can be a witch, and a witch can be a Wiccan. But the terms do not mean the same thing. Why? Because you do not have to be Wiccan in order to practice magic and spellcasting. Therefore you do not have to be Wiccan to be a witch. And although Wiccans tend to practice magic (and are therefore witches) they do not necessarily do so.

This is where alot of people get it confused, which I find sad. I have talked to countless people who thought in order to practice witchcraft they had to give up their current religion and become Wiccan. Now that's fine if Wicca appeals to you and you no longer believe the teachings of your current religion. But it is not a necessity. You can be Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, whatever religion you already are, and still be a witch and practice witchcraft.

Where the biggest problem lies is usually with the other religion. I don't think there are alot of Christian priests who will give witchcraft the big thumbs up. The same goes for church leaders of most religions. But here's the thing you need to consider... (and let's use Christianity as our example since there are so many Christians) are you practicing the ideas of your religion... or are you blindly following a preacher? Just as you do not have to be Wiccan to be a witch, you don't have to worship the Pope to be a Catholic. When you are a member of a religion, it is because you believe in a good number of the ideas&am...

Commercial or Handcrafted Magick?

Show Guide...

I have heard it time and time again at festivals that "I don't buy Magickal Crafted Goods from someone I don't know".  "The energy could be bad or it might not be mixed right".  "The last time I bought that item (insert your choice of item here) it didn't work".  I could go on for hours about this......

Think about it, how many times do you purchase a commercially produced magick tool?  Or how about that Candle you purchased that was mass produced?  Maybe that oil you bought that stated it was "Money Drawing" only to find your finances dwindling away?  Or how about the time you needed a spell powder only to find that you didn't have the right ingredients?  The best of all is the time I myself purchased a supposed Mandrake Root only to find out it was the famous May Apple Root that so many sell as true Mandrake.

A word from the WISE:  It is perfectly acceptable to purchase Magickal crafted goods from others, we all do it every day.

My thoughts on purchasing magickal tools is this:

I absolutely refuse to purchase an item that has been commercially manufactured and use it in my Magickal workings.  They feel to me bland and lack energy not to mention they smell funny and who knows what energy has been put into it.  Take candles for instance: you run to the closest store grab a votive for a few pennies take it home and start your spell.  Now mass produced candles are just that Commercially made.  No correct timing, no magick boosting herb embeds, and do you really think that the machine that poured that candle gave it Life (energy)?

Now think about the far and few Pagan Candle makers out there and trust me there are not very many of them but I have tried...

WICCAN HOLIDAYS

Holidays

Despite competition from twentieth century 'life in the fast lane', the awesome spectacle repeated in the patterns of the changing seasons still touches our lives. During the ages when people worked more closely with nature just to survive, the numinous power of this pattern had supreme recognition. Rituals and festivals evolved to channel these transformations for the good of the community toward a good sowing and harvest and boutiful hunting.

One result of this process is our image of the Wheel of the Year with its eight spokes the four major agricultural and pastoral festivals and the four minor solar festivals commemorating seasonal solstices and equinoxes. In common with many ancient people, most Witches consider the day as beginning at sundown and ending at sundown on the following day. Hence a sabbat such as November Eve runs through the day of November 1st. Solstice and Equinox dates may vary by a few days depending on the year.

October 31 -- November Eve -- Samhain

Samhain means 'summer's end', for now nights lengthen, winter begins, and we work with the positive aspects of the dark tides. In the increasing starlight and moonlight, we hone our divinatory and psychic skills. Many Craft traditions, and the ancient Celts, consider this New Year's Eve. It is the one night when the veil that separates our world from the next is at its thinnest, allowing the dead to return to the world of the living, to be welcomed and feasted by their kin. The Christian religion adopted this theme as 'All Saints Day' or 'All Hallows Day' (Nov. 1), celebrating the eve as 'All Hallows Eve' or 'Halloween'. The alternative date of November 6 ('Martinmas' or 'Old Hallo...

Effective Spellcasting...

There are so many ways to cast a spell.  Everyone has there own way of doing it.  But no matter what way you use, there are several important things that need to be included for the spell to be effective.

  • Knowing exactly what you want, and why you want it.
  • Be very specific in your wording of the spell to match your need.
  • Try and time the spell with the correct day, hour, or moon phase, if possible.
  • Focusing and Visualizing your need or desire.
  • Raising and Releasing the energy.
  • Not dwelling on, or talking about the spell.

One way I have found that helps me is to sit down and write a letter of intent to my Goddess.  I put down what I want to happen, why I want it, and how I want things to go.  This way I am sure i'm sending the right message out into the universe.

The hardest thing to do is not dwell on your spell, but it really does make a difference when you let it go.

Practice makes perfect, don't get discouraged, and believe in yourself.  Magic comes from within, and we all have it.

Brightest Blessings!

How to Care for your Spell Bound Magick Jewelry

Show Guide...

Bonding with Your Spell Bound Items

When you have a new piece of our magickal jewelry you need to first take time to bond with it. Wear it every day for the space of a month, and at night, keep it under your pillow or on your altar. This helps your energies blend so that it becomes part of your aura, and creates a connection between you and your jewelry. That connection can allow you to call upon the powers of your jewelry even when you're not physically wearing it.
Among most magickal people, it is considered rude to touch someone else's jewelry, or other magickal tools, without permission. This is because when someone touches something, they leave an unseen thread of their energy attached to it. That is why we suggest you DO NOT lend your items to anyone.

Caring for your Spell Bound jewelry is easy and will help your treasures last a lifetime of wear and pleasure. This brief guide takes you through the basics, as well as highlighting some pitfalls to watch out for. But first, a quick word of caution. Before you start any cleaning activity, please be sure that all stones or beads will not be damaged by whichever method you have selected.

We DO NOT advise you send your items out for cleaning.

NEW TO WICCA,A GUIDE TO YOUR ALTAT SET-UP

Show Guide...

GREETINGS FROM THE ONCE WAYS!!!!

HERE IS JUST SOME BASIC INFO FOR THOSE OF YOU

NEW TO THE CRAFT!!!

FROM EMILY OF THE SILVER MOON COVEN

The space where you perform your rituals and ceremonies is very personal. There is really no set requirement for ritual space, other than that it should be safe, private and feel perfect to you, the practitioner. Having said that, there are a couple of guidelines that you may find useful when deciding where to set up a permanent altar.

1. Privacy - The rituals you practice are your communication with the Goddess. This is your time, and it should have no place for self-consciousness, or fear of outside reactions. Find a space in your home, or near your home where you feel safe and uninhibited, and where your inner powers can emerge uninterrupted.

2. Environment - We all have different things that trigger our sense of the sacred. For some it is the proximity of water, for others perhaps woods or mountains help us to achieve the sense of the sacred. One universal however, is respect for your sacred space. If at all possible, create a dedicated space. Keep your altar space clean and clear of household items, children's toys, etc. Protect this space and treat it as your church - because it is!

3. Aesthetics - This is one of the most important spaces in your life. Just as you would take time and care choosing a color and furniture for your living room, you should take time and care with selections for your altar room. When you choose a wall color, think of how you feel when surrounded by that color. Or perhaps consider coloring the four walls differently to symbolize the four directions.
