Free Gifts With Purchase Guidelines

Including Free Gifts with Purchase

If you are going to include free gifts with purchase there are a few things to take into consideration.

What to include?  How much to include?  How to include it?  How much to spend on it?  How to handle it?

What to include?

Depending on what you sell, you should tailor your free gifts to the items that you have for sale.  If you sell clothing, include coordinating items (such as neckties, costume jewelry & accessories).

-- Accessories- If they purchase jewelry include a coordinating piece.

-- Candy- Include hard candies (avoid chocolate & melt able type candies).  Lollipops can be given with children?s clothing for instance.  Also, keep in mind that some people are diabetics, so sugar free candies should be taken into consideration.

-- Discount cards/coupons- Very easy to make.  Give a dollar amount or percentage off their next purchase.

-- Gift Cards/Phone Cards, etc- For larger purchases, you can include free gift cards to national stores or for military families.  For phone cards, you can check out the buyers ME page to see if this is a good option.

-- Travel vouchers- Be very careful with these.  Make sure they are legit before sending them.

-- Samples- Perfume/Cologne, etc.  Keep in mind that some people are allergic, so hypoallergenic brands are best.  Or tailor this to your perfume/cologne/bath & body customers only.&nbs...

Tips for Building an e-bay business

Show Guide...

As you begin to make the leap from part-time piddler to full-time seller, be sure to follow these steps to create a legal business that can sustain growth.  As we speak to smaller sellers who are beginning to grow, we often find they are doing things backwards and hindering their growth.  There is nothing scarier than opening your door to the state tax man who is asking for his money.  No joke, this actually happened to a powerseller friend of ours.

1- incorporate your business- you can probably do this easily and affordably on your own, most state departments of commerce have a user-friendly site for this and there are many sites dedicated to small business incubation

2- sign up for your FEIN- you will need this for taxes

3-get your local business licenses

4- be sure you are abiding by state sales tax laws and rules

5- make your life easier- download accounting assistant, spring for the accompanying accounting software, be sure you're using turbolister and selling manager pro

Cleaning LP Vinyl Records

Show Guide...

CLEANING VINYL RECORDS

I have learned an easy way to clean my records!

I buy rubbing alcohol and I pour it into a spray bottle.

Just take an empty spray bottle and fill it with rubbing alcohol.
It usually takes about 2 containers to fill a spray bottle.

Before I list my records,
I remove them from the sleeve and GENTLY spray a MIST at an angel onto the vinyl

Stay about 5 inches away.
Then i take a soft cloth (never, never use paper towels) and GENTLY rub in a circular motion,
Same direction as the grooves, DO NOT go against the grooves.

The alcohol dries very quickly and you can than inspect the vinyl for any MAJOR scratches or Nick's.

READY and CLEAN VINYL , list it on eBay giving a CLEAN DESCRIPTION,
slip it back into the sleeve till it is
SOLD and ready to ship!

NOTE: DO NOT use this method to clean 78's or OLDER, thick vinyl, it WILL DAMAGE THEM. WARM soapy water is BEST for those older records.

THANKS for Reading My Review!!!!!!!!!!!

Eliminating Customer Complaints

Show Guide...

How to eliminate potential complaints:

1.      Include enough of a description to satisfy all of the questions your buyers may want or need to know.  This includes size, measurements, shipping method, etc.

2.      Make sure to have a clear TOS.  Make your TOS as simple to follow as possible.  If you accept multiple forms of online payments make sure to use the same email address.  This also cuts down on buyer confusion.  You do not want to make it difficult for a buyer to pay you.

3.      Be very careful about what issues you bring to a public forum.  Will your buyer have access to what you are saying?  Are you saying anything that could cause them to have negative feelings towards the transaction?  Feel free to ask for help, but be sure not to insult your customers (especially in a forum where you can pick up additional customers).  How you handle adversity can very well gain or loss you customers.

4.      Let your buyers know everything you are doing for them.  Just because you may know, doesn?t mean they do.  Do you include any extras?  Is your packaging superb?  Do you keep in constant contact with your buyers throughout the buying process?  A ME page is a great way to let your buyers know what you do for them and what you get out of the selling process.

5.      Be easily accessible.  Don't make it difficult for your clients to reach you. Include your contact information in all emailsmand in your listings. However, you don't want...

MYSTERY BOX BONUS $$ SCAMS - How to Spot a FAKE BIDDER!

The eBay philosophy is people are basically good, but Mystery Auctions have been bringing out a number of bidders who are not what they appear to be. Recently, I've had three Mystery boxes on which have risen to astronomical heights only to find out the bidders had no intention of paying and the bid resting at a near normal location. This makes seller's of Mystery Box Auctions frustrated and weary from trying to catch these fake bidders at their game.

I LEARNED THE HARD WAY

My listings had bonus money in them which was payable upon successful completion of the auction which means the winning bidder must pay. Clearly stated - no pay, no bonus. Normal and fair practice. Several bidders tried to run the bidding up and make money on the bonus trying to pass the buck to the high bidder. It was like a hot potato nobody wanted but they wanted to watch the other guy win and get something for doing nothing. These people were put on a list and they went right into my Blocked Bidders and also to a report filed with eBay.

I've learned several things along the way which I hope will be helpful to you in our endeavor to run clean and fair Mystery Auctions.

PROTECT YOURSELF

PRE-APPROVED BIDDER'S LIST

Protection is key so one option is to have a Pre-Approved Bidders list which is found under Site Map in the middle column.  You can add bidders to your list and make sure they really want to bid on your item before they run it up for no reason. Click on the link and follow the instructions to add your item and your approved bidders to the list.

eBay's Privacy Policy

We all know how Ebay use's information on what we do here, you can see that on your My Ebay page.  If they didn't keep track you wouldn't have this nifty page.

But, eBay protects its members, protects your personal information from being used by that dark side of people who want more than the product that you are selling.  You can see how well they are doing by going to the Security and resolution Center at http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/privacy_central.html

eBay will not rent or sell your information to anyone, on or off the site.  Outsiders are never allowed to breach the walls and come on to this site and try to sell you anything.  That's why you don't see banner ads that take you away from eBay.

The only way another member can find out more about you than the general membership knows is if you are in the middle of a transaction with them.  EXAMPLE: they won an auction, are doing a buy it now, or answering a second chance offer.  This works both ways for sellers and buyers.

eBay will notify you of policy changes and give you a chance to put your two bits in about them.  eBay has a truste license and will always answer your concerns.  If you feel your question has gotten lost in the humdrum world we all get caught up in - you can address your concerns by going to (since the following is a site off of Ebay - you will need to delete the spaces by placing a dot in them - otherwise the rest of the site information should be typed as it is to reach the page) truste org/consumers/watchdog_ complaint php

Can you turn your hobby into a business?

Show Guide...

Maybe it's just been a pipe dream when the job gets to be too stressful.  Maybe it's a necessity because you've lost your job or want to stay at home.  But you want to explore the possibility of using your hobby to build a successful business.  How do you do that?  Well, I can't promise to give you brilliant insight into the business end of the equation - I'm still learning that myself, and others have much more insight than I - but I can tell you how to determine if you're ready to make the leap from a part-time hobby to a part- to full-time business.

One of the first things to consider is if you would enjoy doing the hobby as a business.  That might sound strange, but I have found that some hobbies I enjoyed as just hobbies became tedious when I tried to convert them into businesses.  A business requires working on projects to finish and sell.  You can't get tired of a project in the middle, stop, and then come back when you feel like it.  That can make even the most exciting hobby tiresome, especially if you get easily bored, like I do.  You need to consider your temperament, abilities, and determination to see if turning a hobby into a business is for you.

The next thing you need to consider is if your hobby will sell.  Even the best, most incredible hobby is useless as a business if there is no customer base.  Do your research.  See if there are others in your community doing the same thing.  Yes, that means competition, but guess what else that means?  Customers!  Look on the Internet.  Go to the library.  Legwork is very important in business, as it is in many things in life.  Market research is going to become your friend!

How to work at home doing surveys and product trials

Show Guide...

I earn extra income doing consumer surveys and product trials on a GPT or "get paid to" site.  Unfortunately there are some scams out there so you should always steer clear of any home business site that charges you to join or has no forum allowing you to interact with other members.  You can tell that my favorite site is legitimate because it is free to join and you can hear feedback from other members on the site's forum and chatroom.

Companies will pay you for trying out their products and surveys / getting some honest feedback.  They do this because they're hoping to get some new customers.   There are hundreds of offers to choose from and the site is totally free to join.  Whenever you earn at least $20, the site will send you a check in the mail the following month.

There are two basic types of offers;  surveys & trials:

You can earn money doing surveys (aka 100% free) offers.  These don't pay as well as the trials but there no credit card will ever be required.  Sometimes you can get paid simply for signing up to another site (i.e., MyPoints).  Some surveys will ask for your name, address, phone # etc.  If you do any of these I recommend getting some free email account/s and a free voice mail # from privatephone.com so that you will not get unwanted SPAM or telemarketing calls.  The cash surveys work best when you clear cookies in your web browser before doing another one and limiting yourself to 5-7 surveys per day.

Trials tend to pay well ($10 or mo...

How To Start A Business

 A Basic Guide

Many of us would LOVE  to work for ourselves.  Extra income, the possibility of unlimited income, and the freedom from your daily job are always great incentives.  Before you quit your job or invest your money, make sure you know what you are doing.  You don't need to be an expert in the business you choose.  You simply need to have a well thought out plan for what you will do and how you will do it.

Sounds easy doesn't it.  I know from experience how hard that can actually be.  I, and many others, have been in such a hurry to get started that we jump into a business before thoroughly thinking it through.  This can be a very costly mistake to make in both time and money.  There are lots of products, services, and books out there that promise quick money if you follow their plan.  Being in business for yourself is not easy.  There are no shortcuts to riches, no one-size-fits-all solutions, and no one can do it for you.  If you are willing to invest the time and hardwork, this can be one of the most rewarding (not just in money) ventures of your life.

Do you still want to start a business?  Then follow these steps to get started.

  1. Do you know what business you would like to start?  If you already know, go on to step 3.  Everyone else get out a blank piece of paper.  On this paper you will list your experience, skills, hobbies and interests.  Now you need to do some brainstorming.  Sit in a quiet place and think of things people would pay you for that take advantage of the strengths you just listed.  Be creati...

Business Opportunity (BIZ OPP) Tips to avoid scamming.

    Show Guide...

Entrepreneurial spirits have been using their computers in the millions trying to join the multitudes on the internet making money. The online world beckons more than ever with the seeming promise of riches for the next "million-dollar idea". For those who don't want to think up their own product or service to sell online, thousands of business opportunities proclaim themselves as the "secret" path to online riches.

To cash in , they explain, all any self-motivated, self-starter needs to do is hand over a few hundred dollars and they will instantly find themselves in a "proven, turn-key" business on the World Wide Web.

Many online business opportunity sellers, "biz-opps" for short, don't mention that the real money for lies in getting people to sign up for the opportunity itself, or referrals for their affiliate product or service.

These biz-opps have multiplied like fees from a high interest credit card, and open and close up shop online faster than a con-man with a card table on the corner.

Though many of the online opportunities may seem legitimate, some represent little more than ideas that
might work if you devote your every waking moment and extra dollar to working and promoting them.

If you truly want to use your computer to make money from home, ask the following questions before you actually choose a business opportunity. These may just leave you with a fighting chance for success.

NOTE: Though some of these questions may seem a tad aggressive, it's better than getting ripped off.

IRS Plan on Taxing on Ebay Users!

      Show Guide...

      IRS Plans:

The IRS has made no secret of the fact that it wants Internet auction companies like eBay to provide more information about high-volume sellers to the government in order to help close the "tax gap" between what Americans owe and what they pay. But now the official proposals are finally on the table, and Ars has had a look at the documents. Here's what you can expect if the changes go through.

Changes are contained in the President's 2008 budget proposal. Instead of targeting only Internet auction sites, the current proposal actually expands the definition of a "broker" to include middlemen that don't actually function as the customer's agent in a transaction?like eBay, for instance. Brokers currently need to file a form with the IRS that gives the name, address, and gross proceeds of each customer they work for; under the new proposal, many more companies would need to do the reporting.

The Treasury Department wants the change because, as the budget request notes, "compliance increases significantly for amounts that a third party reports to the IRS." But this isn't a change that will apply to all eBay sellers; in fact, most will be exempt from the new reporting requirements.

Internet auction sites will only be required to report customer revenue information if the customer does more than 100 separate transactions in a fiscal year and generates more than $5,000 in gross proceeds. In a report from the Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee(part of the IRS), the new proposal is supported by a 2005 study showing that over 700,000 Americans have a primary or secondary source of income through eBay. Essentially, these people are running small businesses, but IRS research on small business tax returns shows that "non-farm sole proprietors under-report 57 percent of business income on Schedule C"...

Is the future of the mouse pad bleak?

      Show Guide...

There has been a big scare in the mouse pad industry.  The culprit?  A relatively new product ? the optical mouse.   The fear is, as optical mice gain popularity, mouse pad sales at every level will decline.  This has the potential to impact a great number of ancillary businesses? from the manufacturer all the way down to the little guy like me, who sells an end product.

Basically, an optical mouse does not have the traditional ball/roller mechanism previously requiring the aid of some type of mouse pad.  The optical mouse can be used on almost any surface? a desk, a book or even the top of your head (assuming it is flat).  The optic light is simply transferred to whatever surface the mouse is sitting on, thereby moving the pointer on your screen.  Fairly slick!

Side note ? if you want to harmlessly torture a coworker who uses an optical mouse, here is what you do.  When he/she has stepped away from their desk for a moment, simply turn their mouse upside down and cover the red optic light with a sticky side of a Post-It-Note.    This ?blinds? the optic capabilities of the mouse and will send your office mate into fits of frustration as they move the mouse, but the pointer on the screen doesn?t budge.  Ahhhhh good times!

I first became aware of the optical mouse dilemma when I opened my virtual eBay store.  Many of my eBay friends had commented on how much they loved my product. However, after a while, I noticed a good number of these same friends had not made one single purchase.  This struck me as odd.

Some serious proactive digging ensued and I discovered that many of those who had not made a purchase were relatively new optical mice users.  Most gleefully remarked how they had felt f...

Mobile Computing In Your Vehicle - It Can Be Done!

      Show Guide...

I am going to tell you here about the Mobile Computing setup that I use On The Road in my Semi, my experiences with it, and a bit about how it has evolved over time.  It is my hope that, if you are needing to implement a full 'mobile office' in your business, that my experiences may help you in getting it going.

As I said, this setup is in my Semi - a 1999 Freightliner.  I am an Owner-Operator, running long-haul freight all over the U.S., usually living in the truck for a month at a time.  I have been packing Laptops on the road ever since Windows 95 was the state of the art - and now have a widescreen model with Windows XP (soon to be upgraded to Vista).  My system has progressed over the years, from a mere 'hobbyist' way to check e-mail via an available phone jack somewhere, once or twice a week - to now, where I have a cellular wireless card and subscribe to a nationwide wi-fi network, and the computer is an indispensable part of my business.  In the latest advance, I now get paid by scanning my paperwork direct from the truck, as soon as a load is delivered - instead of having to hunt for an overnight airpack dropbox, and hope the papers don't get lost in transit.

Admittedly, a Semi has more space available to stretch out and work than some other types of vehicles may have - and that is where you will need to tailor your gear to your own operation and needs.  What I am using, though, could be just as easily used in a small delivery truck, a pickup truck, or a car (if you don't routinely haul a full load of passengers).

The 'heart' of any mobile system, of course, is the Laptop computer.  There are literally tens of thousands of variations available, in all kinds of price ranges.  Whatever your needs are, or what you think they are, they will ALWAYS grow AFTER you buy...

      Headlight restoration 101

A lot of instructions mean a lot of work

Does your headlight cleaner require tech support?

What the caveman won't tell you.

      It's only oxidation!

There are numerous products on the market that claim to clean your lens using a process of buffing, sanding, grinding, polishing and multiple steps. Some times hours worth of work.
      Guess what!
The same oxidation you take off today will return in time.  You will need to clean your lens again. Do you want to have to do that every year?

Think of the time you will waste repeating the job and in most cases you will have to buy another cleaning kit. Headlight cleaning does not last for ever. Oxidation will build back up again over time. There is no one time fix.

The sealers used by these Headlight kits do more harm than good.

Initially they give the headlight a nice gloss
but that gloss does not last and it will turn yellow and peels off your lens. Now your lens can't be cleaned by any other
method than the buffing and grinding method you used before.
You have given your self a life sentence of annually spending hours restoring your headlights, making the lens thinner
and thinner with each application. Eventually you will have to replace your lens and look how much money and time you will have spent.
The Cavemen have used this tried and true ...

Benefits of reserve price listing with buy it now

      Show Guide...

Reserve price listing is where you allow your listing to auction but you set a minimum price that you will sell the item at. Reserve price amount is not shown to the bidders. Once the reserve is met you are then obligated to sell the item to the high bidder.

The Benefits of the reserve price listing is:

      1. You are able to be sure that if your item sells it is at least a certain price.

      2. Most important use for a reserve auction is to use in conjunction with the buy it now.

When using a reserve amount in an auction it protects the buy it now feature! Until the reserve amount is met or past the buy it now will still be displayed. Example: you auction an item and list it starting at 0.99. Your buy it now price is $99.00 A bidder bids .99 and the buy it now immediately disappears. Now it is a pure auction with no opportunities for someone to buy it now! If you set a reserve price the buy it now feature will continue until that reserve price is met. This enables potential bidder to own the item regardless of the previous bids!

The challenges of using reserve pricing:

1.Many bidders may not like reserve auctions and not bid at all.

      2. Reserve price is the same cost to list as if you listed the item to start at that price.

      Solutions to challenges:

      1. A buy it now feature attached to a reserve auction allows the transaction to be transparent and if the buy it now is fair and the item is desirable it will sell and the bids will help get the item attention until it sells.

      2. eBay could change the Buy it now option to continue without having a reserve at predetermined percentages of the buy it now price. For example if the item ...

      PURCHASING A NEW COMMERCIAL VEHICLE

      Show Guide...

Many Consumers are under the misconception that they must own a large Company or Business in order to purchase a Commercial vehicle at a dealership. Most car dealerships welcome all Commercial customers, small and large.  Companies or Businesses that  are owned and operated by Sole-proprietorships and LLC's, can also get good deals on Commercial vehicles. Buying a specialized Commerical vehicle can save Small Business owners time and money, letting you focus on running your business, rather than having your Business run you.

We recently attended a small County Flea Market, and were amazed at the types of questions we recieved. Most people were under the assumption that only large Corporations were allowed to buy Commercial vehicles. Also, many Female Business owners relayed that they felt intimidated by the concept of going into a local car dealership and purchasing a Commercial vehicle.

We would like to help dispel some of these myths and misconceptions that are out there concerning this area of vehicle sales.

1.) Usually the only special license needed for a Commercial vehicle is one that applies to the weight class of the vehicle being purchased. ie: a CDL, or CDL-C. Other Endorsements may be needed for a heavier truck, or as pertains to Hazmat Commodities being transported..

2.) DOT numbering is generally only required for vehicles over 10,001 #.

3.) Financing is generally the same for Commercial  vehicle Sales. The process is pretty much the same as what Consumers go through for regular vehicle purchases. Financing companies might differ, but the process is generally the same.

4.) Insurance levels and types may differ from regular vehicles. This usually depends on the weight of the vehicle and what type of service is being preformed, or commodity being transported. Your regular or Bu...

shipping a motorcycle or atv small engine

      Show Guide...

i have shipped many motors of all sizes and shapes, i think it is best to help the customer out and myself by keeping the shipping to a minimum.

start by draining any fluids from the motor, this way when the shipper tips it over you wont be charged for a cleanup or haz-mat spill (you can be fined in excess of 50,000 dollars for causing a haz-mat situation in a federal building and the post office counts as a federal institution).   after draining, fid any pokey or sharp parts of enhine that may tear packaging and cover them with a little piece of card board and tape it down. now buy a cheap roll of saran wrap at any dollar store and wrap the motor. go nutz use all of it if you want. doing this will ensure any other oil wont leak out .

      engines up to 70 lbs.

i have found   that the cheapes and easiest way to ship a small motor is  using a chap rubbermaid style tote or bin. place engine inside pack with dense material like old rags foam or tight packed paper, then duct tape the lid closed wrapping several times, and your ready to ship.

      engines over 70 lbs.

get a piece of  plywood cut to roughly 8 inches wider than the motor, attatch three 2x4's to bottom of plywood spaced evenly one along each edge and in the middle. then  drill 4 holes on each corner, set saran wrapped motor on top and secure with ratchet straps utilizing the drilled holes for mounts.   i have not found a frieght shipper that didnt accept this style of  open crating.
