Information on Memory Foam Products

Show Guide...

ILD Rating - Indentation Load Deflection:

The ILD rating is going to tell you how firm the material is. The 25% ILD rating is the number of pounds required to achieve a 25% compression on a 4" thick foam using a 50 square inch pressure. An Example of this is as follows: 36lb. ILD foam indicates that this material took 36 lbs. of pressure to indent this foam 25%. ILD rating is also not an absolute value, all ILD ratings for memory foam will have a small range, for example: a 14 ILD rating product could be 12 - 16 ILD in any given batch. Keep in mind that the higher the ILD, the firmer the foam. It does not necessarily mean it's better for you, as personal preference is the main factor. Costing more does not always mean better, just that the process or material cost to produce, or that their marketing fees are higher. Always remember that if and when you decide to purchase a memory foam mattress.

Density - Weight in LB.:

The weight of a memory foam is determined by the amount of chemicals used in the structure of the memory foam(polyurethane foam). The more chemicals used, the higher the density value of the foam, and in turn more visco-elastic it will become. So what is visco-elastic mean? It is the characteristic which is defined by the ability to absorb and trap the body heat, making the foam hotter, which in turn makes the foam softer. Over time the foam will become molded to your individual body shape, depended on the weight of your body and the heat it creates, creating a sensation of sleeping on a bed of cloud. Density does not determine the hardness of the material, that is done through the ILD rating.

What is the smell that initially comes from memory foam?

U.S. made foam does not contain any toxic ingredients like formaldehyde or PBDE, polybrominateddiph...

Choosing a Down Pillow

Show Guide...

Since we spend a third of our lives in bed, it's important to choose our bedding wisely.

1) First, decide how much support is right for you. Support in a down pillow is determined by the quality of the fill, known as fill power, and the number of ounces of fill weight. The higher the fill power rating the better the quality of the down.  This means, ounce per ounce, the higher fill power pillow will be longer lasting, fluffier and loftier than one with a lower fill pillow rating. The easiest way to decide what firmness is best for you is to determine your normal sleep position.  Stomach sleepers generally prefer softer pillows. Back sleepers generally prefer medium firm pillows, and side sleepers usually prefer a firm pillow. Remember, these guidelines are generalizations, and your individual preference may vary.

2) Next, decide if you would prefer a feather, down or down and feather blend pillow. Feathers are two dimensional, so are flatter than down. Also, you will be able to feel the spine of the feather in most.  Down is three dimensional, and provides a fluffier and loftier pillow. An all down pillow will be softer and fluffier, but may be very expensive to get the fill needed, also the down alone may not hold it's shape as well as a feather and down pillow. The feather and down blend may be the best option, especially if it has an inner core of feathers, with the down outer layers. This type of pillow, if constructed properly, will maintain it's shape, have a a lofty, comfortable feel, and maintain it's shape.

3) Make sure that the pillow cover is down proof. Down proof means that there will be no leakage of the fill. Always be sure to have a threadcount of at least 210+ or above to ensure that it i...

Pillow Buying Guide: Memory Foam? Latex? Down? Feather?

Show Guide...

Our bed pillow options are changing dramatically as sleep technology advances.  Choosing the best pillow is not something I can do for you.  I can give you information that will assist you in your purchasing:

Size:

The size you choose for your bed mostly depends on your mattress.  King size sheets come with extra long pillow cases that would be best when used with King size Pillows.  Standard and Queen size pillows normally only differ by a few inches and either size is fine for any mattress up to queen size.  King size pillows can be too long and unyielding to a person, so you might be better off with 3 Standard or Queen size pillows on a King size Bed.  Pillow cases can always be purchased separately to make sure you have 3 cases that match your sheets.

Sleep Position:

The position you normally find yourself sleeping in is a major deciding factor when purchasing new pillows.  Back sleepers would normally be better suited to thinner less supportive pillows to obtain proper spinal support.  Side sleepers could use the extra support of a medium firm or contoured pillow.  Stomach sleepers need to be extra careful to get thin pillows to avoid suffocation from their pillow.

Pillow Filling:

If you prefer a very thin pillow, Down or Synthetic Down should work very well for you.  If you prefer a supportive pillow, Memory Foam or Latex should suit you.  Memory Foam will react to the heat and weight of your head and conform around you giving outstanding support.  Latex relieves pressure a little better than memory foam and bounces back immediately if you move in your sleep.  Memory Foam can take as long as 30 to 60 seconds to go back to its normal size, which may wake you if you move a lot.

Dear Valued Tempur-Pedic Sleep System Customers,

Show Guide...

By: Tempur-pedic and Joint Effort of Swedish Healthy Concept

The Tempur-Pedic brand is truly changing the way the world sleeps and the network of satisfied sleepers is growing daily.Because of the popularity of the product, there can emerge people who would use this popularity to defraud the public of the full benefits of a Tempur-Pedic product.Tempur-Pedic sells its products directly to the public and through a network of authorized dealers. These dealers have been selected because of their ability to service their customers and our product.

Here are some things you need to be aware of when purchasing a product online from EBAY or any other unauthorized dealer.

1)Buyer Beware! It`s easy to cut and paste photographs and images from other eBay listings and other sites.Just because the photo looks real,it doesn`t mean the product is Authentic to Tempur-Pedic.

2)Bait and Switch:we have seen several instances where sellers have placed a Tempur-pedic cover on a knock-off mattress and sold it as a Tempur-Pedic.

3)The warranty and trial period are not valid on any product sold on eBay.

4)False Advertising:misleading tactics eBay sellers are using to sell knock-offs.Sellers have been known to claim their product is the "same as Tempur-Pedic" or even that their product is made at the same factory. We have also seen several cases where customers thought they were getting a Tempur-Pedic but received a poorly constructed knock-off.

We have also been told by customer that the shipping of these products sometimes takes a long time. This is because the seller wants to cover his tracks. If any authorized dealer is found to be selling Tempur-pedic on EBAY it is grounds for termination.

If you have any questions about whether the source you are considering purchasing from is an authorized dealer p...

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT DOWN PILLOW FOR YOU

Show Guide...

The right pillow can mean the difference between a restful nights sleep and "ouch" when you wake up.  Your neck, spine and shoulders need to be in alignment with each other while you sleep just as they need to be when you're awake and standing with perfect posture.

Choosing the right pillow is pretty straight forward.  The goal of a perfect sleeping pillow is to offer comfortable support while also relieving stresses on your neck.    Here's a few simple guidelines that may be helpful to you.

Ask yourself - How do I sleep?

STOMACH SLEEPERS

If you sleep on your stomach you will probably find a soft pillow ideal for this sleeping position. A medium or firm pillow will more than likely cause your neck to be raised somewhat and out of alignment with your shoulders leaving you with a "kink" in your neck in the morning.  A classic feather/down pillow, or any of the soft goose down pillows regardless of fill power (600, 700, 800) you choose.

BACK SLEEPER

If you are a back sleeper you might think a firm pillow would be best.  But consider that if the pillow is too firm, your head and neck will be at an angle that won't allow your head to "rest" while it's on the pillow.  A soft or medium pillow would be best.  Again the idea of a pillow is to maintain your spine angle while you sleep so that your neck and back muscles can relax.  Back sleepers may need to consider other issues like where you rest your head while it's on the pillow.  Do you like to sleep with more of the pillow down under your back so that you have more support directly under your neck while sleeping?  Or is your pillow closer to the top ...

Microbead & Squishy Pillows - To Surface Wash or Not?

Show Guide...

I purchased a microbead pillow from a hospital gift store. It was a pink and neon green dolphin that was a little dirty from being on the very top shelf in the store.

When I got home, I read the tag that is attached to it's tail and it read "SURFACE WASHABLE". Good, I thought and was happy that I was going to be able to clean it up.

So, I wiped the biggest dirt/dust-mixed spot that was right on the top of the dolphin's head with a regular dish cloth, plain dish soap and warm water, and waited for it to dry. About a half hour later, I looked over at the pillow, and noticed the top of it's head was still wet. I thought that was strange since I hadn't soaked it.
I went in for a closer look and discovered it wasn't still wet - the water left a giant 6-inch in diameter puddle-looking stain right where I had cleaned it! I was so angry!
It looks like the kind of stain when someone drools on a pillow, that's not covered by a pillowcase, and it leaves a circular shape with darker edges.

(I don't know if the stain is visible on every internet's browser, so if you're thinking "I don't friggin' see anything!" - it's just because your browser is different than mine! I'm on M...

Knee Pillows are primarily for side sleepers

Show Guide...

Knee pillows were designed for side sleepers. There are basically three types of sleepers: back sleepers, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers. Of these three types of sleepers, side sleepers have the most trouble with hips and knees not being in proper allignment. No matter which type of sleeper you are, when you are sleeping, your spinal alignment should be the same as when you are sitting or standing in correct posture. Sholders back in a relaxed position, knees slightly bent and approximatly sholder width apart. However, side sleepers have the additional problem of allignment of their hips and knees. Laying on your side, your knees are touching, which pulls on your hips. This can cause you to expierence pain or discomfort in your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. A knee pillow helps to better allign the hips for more comfort.

I've had dozens of customers tell me that our knee pillows have helped releive back pain. I'm not saying that they will cure anything. But if you are experiencing discomfort due to improper allignment of your hips and legs then a knee pillow could help.

Keep in mind that knee pillows are designed, primarily, for side sleepers. If you are a back sleeper or even a stomach sleeper you may not benefit from a knee pillow.

Visco elastic foam~memory foam~ why it is valuable

Show Guide...

What makes visco-elastic foam so valuable as a bed material? In a word, it's support. The unique properties of a visco-elastic memory foam mattress pad allow the bed to actually mold to your body, eliminating pressure points. Pressure points are the areas on the body that press hardest into the bed. For example, if you're a side sleeper, your shoulder is your biggest pressure point. Normally, it bears much of the weight of your body. It allows your shoulders to sink dep into the bed but supports the back and hips. It elimates pressure points and does not cut off circulation as some other bed types do. It is a huge asset to the spine, helps eliviate back and neck pain since your spine will be alligned correctly.
